Overview

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, also known as Kanchenjunga Base Camp trekking, is Nepal's finest less-crowded trip where one can experience the beauty of nature and culture right from the first day of the journey to the end.

“Climb to high-altitude passes, stay in remote villages where foreign travelers rarely visit, and feast your eyes upon the desolate beauty of the high Himalayas—this is eastern Nepal, where the mighty mountain Kanchenjunga dominates the sky.”

Are you ready for a challenging and rewarding trek in Nepal?

Are you a seasoned Himalayan traveler who has already experienced the thrills of the Everest Base Camp Trek or one of the many available Annapurna trekking routes? Or are you the type of traveler who prefers to tread far from the beaten path, venturing into remote territories where craggy, ice-covered mountains tower over crowd-free trails? Whatever your background, you may find it hard to resist the call of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain.

With our 27-day Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, Alpine Ramble Treks has developed what is arguably the most epic hiking itinerary in the entirety of the Himalayas. Over the course of almost four weeks, you’ll have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore this fascinating region to its fullest. Read on to discover more about our Kanchenjunga trekking itinerary.

Trek to Kanchenjunga: the Five Treasures of Snow

Kanchenjunga is situated in eastern Nepal, where it straddles the border with the Indian state of Sikkim. This is a far-off land where myth, legend, and first-class Himalayan scenery collide to create a trekking destination that is nothing short of unforgettable.

Kanchenjunga itself rises to the breathless elevation of 8,586 meters, and the mountain gets its name from the Tibetan language, which translates to the “five treasures of snow.” This evocative name refers to the local belief that the mountain conceals hidden riches of gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy texts—although some modern mountaineers have attributed the name to the mountain’s five distinct summits.

Whatever the origin of its name, the holy mountain of Kanchenjunga offers a tempting prospect for trekkers keen to explore its vibrant tapestry of cultural traditions, soaring mountain heights, and stunning hidden valleys.

What can you expect on the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek?

The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is also known as the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, but it actually represents the combination of two distinct paths, visiting both the north and south base camps.

Our adventure begins in the relative lowlands at Taplejung, and we’ll traverse a stunning breadth of landscapes as we ascend through subtropical jungles, fields of rhododendron, and alpine pastures, and—of course—frozen stretches of rock and ice where mountains scrape the sky.

Our path will bring us to both of Kanchenjunga’s base camps over the course of more than three weeks; there are few treks in Nepal that can rival the sheer scope of this ambitious hike.

Best Time of Year for the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Eastern Nepal experiences slightly different weather patterns than the rest of the country’s trekking regions. Rainfall is more frequent in this part of Nepal, and the lowlands here are often layered with curtains of mist.

Trekking in the Kanchenjunga region is at its very best between September and November, when you can anticipate fine blue skies and clear mountain views as you ascend to the heights of this itinerary.

The Himalayas of eastern Nepal are also spectacular in springtime, particularly between March and May, when rhododendron flowers bloom across the slopes and foothills of the mountains.

Winter trekking is not always possible, however, as the high mountain passes may be blocked in times of heavy snowfall. However, Alpine Ramble Treks can work with you to determine the best possible itinerary, according to your own needs and interests. Please contact us for more detailed information and to begin planning your own adventure.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Difficulty

Kanchenjunga trekking represents a serious challenge even for veteran hikers: this is a long trekking itinerary by any metrics, and it involves climbing multiple mountain passes.

The maximum altitude on this trek exceeds 5,000 meters above sea level, so there is also the potential for unprepared travelers to experience altitude sickness.

Fortunately, Alpine Ramble Treks will pair your group with an experienced guide who understands the mountains of eastern Nepal and who will guide you safely along the winding alpine trails.

This makes the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek possible for most trekkers in reasonable physical condition. To prepare for your trek, consider engaging in regular cardiovascular exercise such as running and walking in the weeks and months leading up to your trip.

More Nepal Trekking Options

The most intrepid travelers are naturally drawn to the remote allure of eastern Nepal, but you can have a spectacular trekking experience in many different regions of our country.

While the trails are a little more crowded, the majesty of Everest trekking never fails to impress. Trekking in the Annapurna region or visiting the lesser-known Langtang Valley are also great ways to explore the best that Nepal has to offer.

If you’re not sure which itinerary is right for you, reach out to us at any time to begin putting together the trekking package of your dreams.

Physical Condition And Experience Requirements

The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is a moderate trekking route of Kanchenjunga region, it is possible to trek with a basic level of fitness, a good training plan prior to your Kanchenjunga Circuit trip will make that much more enjoyable. It doesn’t require any climbing skills. We have seen many different ages of travelers are completing this trek like old, young, overweight and underweight and they all are very much appreciated about the journey, as a non-technical trek that does not require crampons, walking poles, oxygen cylinders, ropes, and technical equipment.  But our company will be provided the warm down jackets and sleeping bags if you do not have your own. A challenging Kanchanjunga trek is accessible to most trekkers who have some genus of fitness level and decent drive with a lot of stamina to last two weeks on the cold weather in the mountain.

Before trek come to do this trek, if you could convenience yourself to take some normal pre-training courses like daily physical exercises, jogging, running, climb the staircase and walking down, cycling, swimming and hitting gym etc that would be greatly helped to accomplish the journey easier.

All the facilities during the Annapurna base camp trek are not as same as Kathmandu but still very pleasant and suitable. Do not expect everything is the high level of standards in the mountain. Alpine Ramble Treks would be glad to ensure the attached bathroom in every possible place even on Annapurna region in advance booking, in some places; you have to compromise in sharing a bathroom at high altitudes area because there is no room with attached bath have being built at this elevations area.

The meals during the trek are included in our price of the Kanchanjunga Circuit trek and they are taken in lodges, basically, Dal baht is a standard option it provides great sustenance for trekking, There are also combined a range of typical and western foods but do not expect all the western items are like the same. The meal in this trek is very convenient and fresh except meat items, usually, we take our breakfast and dinner at the same lodge where we stay and for the lunch, our trekking guide will be chosen every day at the best place possible along the way,

The meals are quite surprising on this trek then other trekking routes Like Everest and Langtang regions of Nepal, all are selected items from the menu of the lodge will be fresh, hygienic and tasty. Some places, there are non-veg item meals are available however we do not recommend to take these meat items in the Kanchenjunga region as they are not hygienic and healthy during the trek. The fresh and healthy meals during the trek like  Dal Bhat, Vegetable items and soups items ( Garlic soup, potato soup, onion soup with the food, ) are recommended which are prepared by the local supplement and do not store as a long period of time to serve it.

Note: The water is available everywhere during KBC trek which cost around 1-3 dollars per liter of botels or you can also use the normal tap water for free but water purification pills are required to filter.
