    Trip Info

    PASSPORT AND VISA

Travelers to Nepal will need to produce a visa when they arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport or any of the country’s other points of entry. Most visitors will be able to obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport. Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of your arrival, beginning with the date that you enter the country. You should also bring an extra passport-sized photo of yourself. Visas-on-arrival costs $40.00 USD and are valid for a period of 15 days; you can also obtain a 30-day visa for $50.00 USD. Travelers of Indian nationality are not required to pay these fees, and residents of certain South Asian countries are exempt once per year. Please get in touch with us to discuss your own situation, and we’ll help you to understand what is required.

Please note: as the international situation surrounding COVID-19 evolves, Nepal’s visa requirements may be subject to change. In many cases, visitors will need to obtain their visas in advance. Please check with us to obtain the latest accurate information.

    TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel insurance is an important safeguard for any visitor trekking in the mountains of Nepal. While Alpine Ramble Treks does not sell travel insurance packages, we would be happy to recommend some of our favorite providers. When you purchase a travel insurance policy, be sure that it covers the following contingencies: emergency helicopter evacuation, medical treatment and evacuation, repatriation, trekking, and climbing. You may need to purchase a higher tier of travel insurance in order to have these activities covered at a high altitude. For climbing, we recommend securing insurance to cover your trekking/climbing activities up to 6,000 -7000 meters. Fortunately, travel insurance policies are easy to purchase online, and you can compare coverage between packages quickly and easily. Trekking under the protection of travel insurance will guarantee your peace of mind and protect you in the unlikely event that you need to file a claim.

    Fitness and Experiences

For your personal safety and success, we recommend physical activities like running, swimming, and some smaller climbs to lower peaks which incorporate climbs that involve the use of crampons. Be prepared for extreme exposure and steep drop-offs and be capable of carrying around 30lbs/15 kilos. If possible, get some experience in technical rock and mountaineering climbing to prepare for your trek and climb to Island Peak. Be familiar with using other climbing equipment, such as jumar ascenders, crampons, and ropes.

    Food

Trekking at altitude requires a lot of energy. We recommend you bring your own healthy snack foods to snack on along the trek.
    Accommodation
In Kathmandu, you will stay at deluxe hotels, and while on the trek your accommodation is in native lodges/guesthouses. At base camp, your accommodation is in tented camps. All accommodation is based on a twin share basis.

    Weather Forecast

During the climb, your guide will have access to current weather conditions.
