At Alpine Ramble Treks, we’ve leveraged our considerable experience in the trekking industry to make this expedition possible. 7-Day Annapurna Base Camp Voyage Best Time/ Season

The summer monsoon largely dictates trekking seasons in Nepal, and our short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is no exception. The monsoon typically lasts from June to August, and most visitors consequently choose to hike during the spring months of February to May or the autumn months of September to November.

These are the best times of year to enjoy the perfect combination of comfortable temperatures and clear mountain views. But you can hike in the Annapurnas at any time of year, and the snow-laden trails of winter are just as mysterious and evocative as the mist-shrouded hillsides of summer.

Whenever you choose to travel, rest assured that Alpine Ramble Treks will create a trekking adventure surpassing even your highest expectations.

7-Day Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Our short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most accessible hikes in the Himalayas. Most good health and reasonable physical fitness travelers will be able to complete this itinerary without issue, and no previous trekking experience is required.

However, this trek reaches altitudes higher than 4,000 meters, and drinking lots of water and getting plenty of rest is essential to let your body adjust naturally to the increased elevation. As always, your guide will look after your progress and ensure you enjoy a safe and rewarding trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

Are you looking for other great treks in Nepal?

While our seven-day ABC Trek is one of the most accessible treks in the Himalayas, Alpine Ramble Treks has many other excellent options for adventure-seekers to consider. If you’d like to explore the Annapurna mountains more leisurely, you won’t want to miss our 12-day ABC trekking itinerary.

For even more ambitious travelers, our 12-day Annapurna Circuit Trek offers the chance to explore more of this incredible region, including a thrilling climb to a high-altitude mountain pass.

Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek - 7 Days Day-by-day Plan Itinerary

Kathmandu to KathmanduExpand all
Max Altitude: 850m/2788ft Meals: Breakfast (Included)Duration: 6-7 hrs approx

On the first day of your epic trek in Nepal, we’ll depart from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, following the Prithvi Highway all the way to Pokhara. Depending on your preference, we can travel by tourist bus or private Jeep—and you can even opt to fly between the two cities, at an added expense. If you prefer to travel by road, the route should take us approximately seven hours to complete. But this is no boring workday commute: our drive will bring us through some of Nepal’s most scenic and alluring rural landscapes. You’ll see how the terrain of the Kathmandu Valley gradually changes, rising to terraced farms of barley dotted here and there with traditional homesteads and finally giving way to the sheer alpine heights of the mighty Himalayas. When we arrive in Pokhara, we’ll get checked into our hotel and spend the rest of the evening exploring this charming lakeside city.

Max Altitude: 1,940m/6,365ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)Accommodation: Trekking Lodge (Tea House)Duration: 4-5 hrs approx

It’s time to start your Annapurna Base Camp Trek. We’ll meet up with our trekking team this morning, including the porters and guide who will lead you unerringly into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. With our team assembled, we’ll make the short drive to nearby Nayapul before shouldering our backpacks and hitting the trail. Today’s hike makes for a gentle introduction to the rigors of trekking in Nepal, and the scenery here is splendid. We’ll cross gravity-defying suspension bridges, stand in the spray of roaring waterfalls, and marvel at the impossible heights of the Himalayas far above our heads. The frozen summits of Hiunchuli, Machapuchare, and Annapurna South will be especially prominent during today’s trek. After about four or five hours of walking, we’ll find ourselves arriving in the village of Ghandruk. We’ll get checked in at our guesthouse and enjoy a hot meal before turning in and spending our first night in the high Himalayas of Nepal.

Max Altitude: 2,170m/7,120ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)Accommodation: Trekking Lodge (Tea House)Duration: 5-6 hrs approx

Trekking in Nepal is all about enjoying superb views of the tallest mountains in the world, and our short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is no exception. As we depart from Ghandruk, we’ll make a brief descent to the Kimrung Khola River before beginning to climb in the direction of Chhomrong—and it’s here that we’ll earn a wonderful look at the soaring mountains known as Gangapurna, Machapuchare, and Dhaulagiri. These monumental summits will continue to tower over the trail during the course of today’s hike, peeking out from behind row upon row of forest-clad hillsides. While today’s continuous ascent may be challenging, we’ll take plenty of breaks to drink water and savor the marvelous natural scenery of the Himalayas. After about five or six hours of trekking, we’ll pull into Chhomrong just in time for a hearty meal at our teahouse or trekking lodge. Before getting some rest, you’ll definitely want to catch the unforgettable spectacle of the sun setting over the gilded peaks of the Annapurnas.

Max Altitude: 2820m/8828ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)Accommodation: Trekking Lodge (Tea House)Duration: 5-6 hrs approx

After a hearty breakfast and a steaming mug of tea, we’ll set off from Chhomrong and travel deeper into the heart of the Himalayas. We’ll use a suspension bridge to cross the Chhomrong Khola River, which will bring us to a steep staircase ascending through a lush rhododendron forest on the way to Sinuwa. When we reach the top, we’ll enjoy a spectacular mountain panorama that just might be the best viewpoint on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek so far. Moving on, we’ll pass through the little mountainside villages of Bamboo and Dovan before arriving at the Himalayan Hotel after about five or six hours of hiking. Also known simply as Himalaya, this community is little more than a small collection of guesthouses and restaurants—but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in hospitality. You’ll fall in love with the friendly people here, and our guesthouse accommodations tonight will make you feel right at home.

Max Altitude: 4130m/13545ft (ABC) Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)Accommodation: Trekking Lodge (Tea House)Duration: 5-6 hrs approx

Are you ready for the final push into the Annapurna Sanctuary? We’ve still got some distance to cover, but today is sure to represent the highlight of your trek in Nepal. We’ll be visiting two separate base camps today: Machapuchare Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. Our hike begins by following the glacial moraine as it approaches the Sanctuary. We’ll check in with the locals to make sure there’s no risk of an avalanche before continuing on to Machapuchare Base Camp, where we’ll enjoy up-close-and-personal encounters with the mighty faces of Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and Annapurna South. While this is an incredible sight, our trek has even more wonders in store for us today.

Moving on from Machapuchare Base Camp, we’ll trek for another few hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp itself. When you come face-to-face with the colossal Annapurna massif, you’ll quickly see how the mountain earned its reputation as a dangerous climb. The summit of this skyscraping Himalayan peak reaches to an impressive 8,091 meters in elevation. We’ll content ourselves with taking plenty of photos from the safety of the ground here, enjoying the adrenaline rush of accomplishing the goal of our trek in Nepal: reaching Annapurna Base Camp. We’ll spend the night at one of the lodges here at base camp.

Max Altitude: 2,310m/7,579ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)Accommodation: Trekking Lodge (Tea House)Duration: 5-6 hrs approx

Make sure to get up early this morning—there’s no more sublime sight on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek than what you’ll witness this morning. With a warm cup of tea in hand, you’ll be privileged to watch the sun break across the glorious natural scenery of the Annapurna Sanctuary. After breakfast, we’ll turn our backs to the mighty Annapurnas and begin to retrace our steps, trekking downhill amongst the extraordinary surroundings of the Himalayan mountains. While the path is always easier on the descent, we’ll set a slow and steady pace to benefit our knees on the many steep stairs we’ll be taking. After about five or six hours, we’ll reach the community of Bamboo and pick out the best available guesthouse for tonight’s accommodations. We can also trek a little further to reach Sinuwa, which offers slightly better mountain views—after all, this is your last full day of trekking in Nepal. Whatever your preference, you’ll be assured of a hot meal and a good night’s rest after today’s long hike.

Max Altitude: 1350 m Meals: Breakfast, & Lunch (Included)Duration: 4 hrs approx

Are you ready for the final stretch of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek? While it’s always sad to bid farewell to the mighty Himalayan mountains, we trust that you’ve had an incredible adventure while trekking in Nepal. The last leg of our journey should only take about two hours on foot; after that, we’ll catch a drive and return to Pokhara. When we arrive, we’ll get checked into our hotel and have plenty of time to relax before enjoying a celebratory dinner with our hiking team. Whether you need transportation back to Kathmandu or would like to further explore Nepal’s adventure capital, you’re in the right hands: the team at Alpine Ramble Treks is standing by and ready to help. Must-Know

Essential Information

Where does the trek start?

The trek officially starts in Pokhara. Therefore, if you are already in Pokhara, you can book your trip, and we will assist you accordingly. As your trek officially starts in Pokhara, the package we provide does not cover your stay in Kathmandu.

What is the accommodation like at the Annapurna Base Camp?

Throughout the trek, you will be staying in a variety of hotels, lodges, homestays, and tea houses. The accommodation experience differs from place to place where a place like Ghandruk will have good hotel options with rooms with attached bathrooms, but as you gain altitude, it will be a room with multiple shared beds with dormitory-style and common bathrooms. So, we urge you to mentally prepare yourself to enjoy some basic facilities during the trek.

Note: Unlike other trekking destinations, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek accommodation is more on a sharing basis; this is not always the case, but there is always a chance. There is a possibility that, in some places, you might have to share a room with other fellow trekkers. They will provide separate rooms for men and women. Because of tourist overflow during the peak season, there will be limited rooms available. Therefore, tourists are expected to share rooms if there are only a limited number of rooms available.

Does this include accommodation in Kathmandu?

No, the package does not include the accommodation in Kathmandu. But if you would like us to arrange a hotel for you, we are happy to be of service to you.

What are the food options during the trek?

Trekking at high-altitude locations requires a lot of energy, as you will be walking for six hours on average. The only way to keep your stamina in check is by consuming a proper diet. One of the readily available foods that is very nutritious and the best for trekking is the Nepali meal, Dal Bhat. There will be other foods available, such as mo: mo, chow mein, thukpa, and noodle soups, which are Nepali and Asian-influenced. Apart from that, you can also find Western foods such as pasta and pizza.

But keep in mind that it might not be available throughout the trek, and preparing it might take longer compared to Nepali food. Additionally, the taste might also differ from the original authentic western foods. The trail is mostly vegetarian and even if non-vegetarian items are available, we recommend not eating them as they might not be fresh and can cause stomach issues. The best meal to have is the Nepali Dal Bhat because it is a well-balanced meal.

Is water and electricity easily available?

There is no problem with water supplies on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It is easily available. You can fill your bottle with normal tap water for free. However, mineral water and hot water for drinking and showering will cost extra.

Most of the trek has hydroelectricity running, so charging your devices will not be a problem. The base camp itself runs on solar power, so you might have limited time to charge your electronics. Charging your electronics will also cost you extra, depending on the place.

How much money should I personally carry for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek of 7 days?

The cost of food, accommodation, and transportation is already covered by your trekking package. The coverage for food is three meals a day, which include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The transportation cost does not cover private vehicle hiring or flight costs. Therefore, any other service you want to enjoy will be at your personal expense. During the trek, there isn’t much you can do so separating around US$20-25 per day should be enough. But Pokhara can be enticing, as there are many things to do, so it will totally depend on how you spend your money.

What amenities can I expect during the ABC Trek?

One of the best things about the Annapurna Base Camp is that communication connections and internet services are available throughout the trek. The phone networks can be disconnected at higher locations but work perfectly fine around lower places. For internet, you can connect to the Wi-Fi provided by the hotel or teahouse with a small payment. Many places provide hot showers as well, with additional payment.

What is the weather and temperature like in the Annapurna Base Camp?

The weather and temperature depend on the season. Spring and autumn are considered to be the best seasons because the temperatures are moderate and the weather is clear with perfect views. Meanwhile, summer is not recommended because of heavy rain, which makes trekking risky. However, in winter, despite the bone-chilling cold, the weather is clear and perfect for clean views of the mountains.

What is a typical day like during the Annapurna Base Camp 7-Day Trek?

Your day typically starts with an early breakfast, around 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. And after your breakfast, you will embark on your trek. On average, you will trek anywhere from 6 to 8 hours per day. Around mid-day, you will stop for lunch, where your guide will take you. You will also enjoy the beautiful landscapes, mountains, and communities as your guide relays his expertise on different aspects of the place you are passing by.

You will not be rigorously trekking throughout the entire day; in fact, you will rest at some tea shops, explore small markets of handicrafts laid out on the trail, take everlasting pictures, capture yourself among the memories, connect with the locals and lose yourself among the mountains.

Once you reach the tea house and settle in for the night, you will have a few hours to explore the surroundings before your dinner is ready around 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. After dinner, you will have a small briefing as to what to expect for the next day and even communicate with your guide regarding how the experience has been so far. Acute mountain sickness is an illness that can affect any mountain climbers, hikers, trekkers, or travelers at high altitudes, normally; it can be suffered above high of 9,000 feet. Acute mountain sickness is caused by reduced air pressure and lowers oxygen levels at high altitudes. If you feel dizzy, suffer palpitations or severe headaches, and return immediately to a lower altitude. Do not take altitude sickness lightly. It can be fatal! Please familiarize yourself with the symptoms of altitude sickness before your trek. Do not ignore even the mildest of altitude symptoms, inform your guide, porters, or hotel staff immediately. Generally, Our guides carry basic medicine and first aid equipment including simple painkillers, altitude sickness tablets, bandages, balm for muscle ache, and medication to treat diarrhea and vomiting.

It depends on the nature of the sickness. Generally, if you become sick, you will descend to a lower high altitude with the help and support of the staff. If you are seriously ill, injured etc we will arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation service. Our guide will take immediate action according to the situation in the mountains. Please ensure you arrange travel insurance that covers you for an evacuation service and trekking at high altitudes.

You will need to carry a good-size of a daypack where you could put your personal belongings, water, camera, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, a fleece jacket, and gloves for higher altitudes. The porters will carry the bigger packs with your clothes etc. They will carry packs up to 15kg.

In city areas of Nepal like Kathmandu and Pokhara, your hotel accommodation will generally include an attached bathroom and have facilities such as air conditioning, reception, Restaurant, and dining services. The level of accommodation is generally Nepalese 3 star and is comfortable and clean. If you require an upgrade of accommodation in Kathmandu or Pokhara, there are many 4 stars and 5-star options at an extra cost. Please let us know if you like high categories hotel service like 5 stars then we will be glad to book for you.

Accommodation in the mountain, you will be staying in “Teahouses.” Accommodation is limited, particularly the higher you get, so your room may differ from a private single/double room to a bed in a dormitory. The accommodation is very basic and there will frequently be shared shower and toilet facilities with other trekkers sometime. Every teahouse has a common dining hall offering varieties of local and western kinds of meals including hot drinks like coffee and any kind of tea in the mountains.

Eventually, almost every trekking region has tea House facilities in Nepal; during the treks in the mountains, we provide standard breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your guide/ porter will help you with the menu selection and ensure that you get the best value meals possible. Although the food is usually plentiful and delicious, you should be aware that the menu is not normally extensive. Most teahouses offer a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as soup and seasonal vegetables. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. There will also be plenty of snacks available such as biscuits, chocolate, and soft drinks and in some areas, you will find fresh fruit in season. You can buy packaged water (bottled mineral water) from a local lodge and shop en route or you can also ask your guide to fill your water bottle with boiled water and treat it with water purification pills
