Comprehensive 14-Day Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek Overview

Are you ready to celebrate the breathtaking scenery and undiminished natural splendor of the unspoiled Himalayas? Would you like to immerse yourself in the colorful, world-famous culture of the Sherpa people? Then pack your bags, strap on your boots, and prepare for the trekking experience of a lifetime.

The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal's most stunning hiking adventures. This exciting trail passes through multiple climate zones, crosses picturesque suspension bridges, and brings you into remote mountainside villages full of friendly locals.

At Alpine Ramble Treks, we’ve carefully designed our 14-day EBC trek itinerary to get you from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu to the lonely grandeur of the mighty Mount Everest—and back again.

The traditional EBC trek allows you to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Khumbu region, including the jaw-dropping Sagarmatha National Park.

You’ll pass through valleys of fir and deodar, follow the paths of glistening glaciers and ancient moraines, and encounter striking Buddhist monasteries and stupas.

You can also expect to come face-to-face with many of the greatest giants of the Himalayas: Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam, just a few of the snowcapped summits that tower over the hills of the Khumbu. Of course, your ultimate reward is the sight of Everest itself. Known variously as Sagarmatha and Chomolungma, this mountain doesn’t disappoint!

This trek also offers the rare opportunity to glimpse the timeless lifestyle, culture, and traditions of the villagers who call the Khumbu home. The region is populated by people of Sherpa, Tamang, and Rai ethnicities, and they’ll welcome you with open arms to learn more about their daily routines and deeply held religious convictions.

In fact, you’ll even have the chance to visit the region's oldest and largest Buddhist gompa: the Tengboche Monastery. Our 14-day Everest Base Camp offers a fascinating blend of adventure, scenery, and culture.

This itinerary is perfect for travelers with a little more time to spare on the trail; visitors on a tighter schedule might also consider our twelve-day EBC Hike or 8-day itineraries. If you have any questions about which option is best for you or if you’d like to customize any of our itineraries, you can always contact us

14-Day Everest Base Camp Trekking Difficulty & Comfort

While prior trekking experience is not a prerequisite for our trekking to Everest Base Camp package, this is a moderately complex hiking trail with a maximum elevation of more than 5,500 meters.

You’ll be walking for six or seven hours each day, and the trail ascends and descends as it winds through countless side valleys and high-altitude mountain passes. For these reasons, you should be healthy and physically fit before embarking on this trek.

Walking, running, and other forms of cardiovascular exercise are great ways to prepare for the opportunity to cross Mt. Everest from your bucket list.

An expert guide from Alpine Ramble Treks will also be assigned to watch over you, monitor your progress and condition, and shepherd you safely from Luka to Everest Base Camp—and back again.

If the 14-day trip to EBC isn’t what you’re looking for, Alpine Ramble Treks has plenty of alternatives here in Khumbu. If you are game to challenge longer hikes, consider our Everest Three pass trek or our 12-Day EBC trek Itinerary.

And if you’re here on a brief visit, you can still enjoy the splendor of the world’s tallest mountain by booking our Everest Base camp trekking with a helicopter tour or Scenic Everest Flight. With convenient departures from Kathmandu, these day trips are a fantastic way to get up close and personal with Mt. Everest when you’re short on time.

Update regarding the Lukla Flight for Everest treks scheduled for 2024 and 2025.

During the peak trek seasons (March to May and October to November), the flight between Kathmandu and Lukla will be slightly amended. Instead of operating from Kathmandu, the flight will now take place from Ramechhap/Manthali airport to Lukla due to traffic congestion. However, for the remaining months, the flight will continue to operate directly from Kathmandu. In case we need to catch a flight from Manthali, we will start early in the morning on the first day of the program. This means we must leave the hotel in Kathmandu at around 1 or 2 am and drive for approximately 3-4 hours to reach Ramechhap/Manthali.

Please note: The trekking times indicated Below are approximate and are best used as general guidelines. During the Everest Base Camp Trek, you can travel freely at your own pace. We also recommend arriving in Kathmandu at least one day before your scheduled itinerary begins; this will allow you to meet with our trekking team in advance to learn more about your planned activities. Staying in Kathmandu for an extra day or two at the end of the itinerary will also provide you with a more flexible schedule if mountain flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are delayed due to weather.

If you’re restless, you can also enjoy a short acclimatization excursion to Syangboche Airport. This is one of the highest airports in the world, and it isn’t used by any commercial airlines. You can also hike to the world-renowned Hotel Everest View, which boasts the best panoramic view of Namche Bazaar. After spending the day resting and exploring, you’ll return to your hotel for a second night.

Our journey along the Everest Base Camp Trek continues today as we depart Namche Bazaar first thing in the morning. As we set out, don’t miss the memorial stupa dedicated to Tenzing Norgay, who made the first known ascent of Everest along with Edmund Hillary. The trail then brings us down to the rushing waters of the Dudh Koshi before rising again through the verdant rhododendron forest on the way to Tengboche. The town’s biggest claim to fame is undoubtedly the Tengboche Monastery. Framed against the stark summits of Ama Dablam, this alluring gompa is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhist Sherpas—particularly during the seasonal Mani Rimdu festival. We’ll overnight in one of Tengboche’s many fine teahouses, where you can look forward to a hot meal and a restful night’s sleep.

  • Accommodation: Himalaya/ Buddha Lodge
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: 3,870m/12,697ft

Our journey on the Everest Base Camp Trek continues after breakfast this morning as we venture deeper into the heart of the Khumbu. Today, we’ll traverse suspension bridges spanning the Imja Khola and Khumbu Khola rivers. While many trekkers will make for the village of Pheriche, we prefer the gentler route and better views to enjoy at Dingboche. From Dingboche, you’ll be rewarded with a compelling picture of Everest, Lhotse, and Imja Tse, popular as Island Peak. We’ll spend the next two nights in the best available teahouse or lodge; tomorrow, you can look forward to relaxing and exploring the sights of this scenic mountain hamlet.

  • Accommodation: Good-luck lodge/similar
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: 4,360m/14,305ft

Dingboche sits at an altitude of 4,360 meters above sea level, and we’ll use today as another acclimatization opportunity. But that doesn’t mean you have to rest on your laurels—after savoring the glorious sunrise over the mountains, we can enjoy a challenging day hike to Nagarjun Hill. Don’t let its name fool you—even the hills look like mountains in the Khumbu, and you’ll feel like you’re standing on top of the world when you feast your eyes upon gobsmacking views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Thamserku. If you’d prefer a shorter hike, there’s also an excellent viewpoint on the ridgeline above Dingboche that rises to just over 5,000 meters and should take about two hours to reach. However you decide to spend the day, you can count on a mouthwatering supper and a comfortable evening chatting with locals and your fellow trekkers.

  • Accommodation: Good-luck lodge/similar
  • Hiking time: 2 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: 4,360m/14,305ft

With Dingboche at our backs and the trail to Everest Base Camp beckoning us ever forward, we’ll begin today’s hike by ascending gradually through a series of small mountainside villages. Look out for the charming stone-built settlements used seasonally by herders before we reach the more substantial town of Tukla or Dughla. After passing through this village, we’ll climb a ridge to get a small group of memorials dedicated to deceased climbers. Take the incredible view of the Himalayan giants, Pumori and Khumbutse, before continuing to Lobuche. Plenty of lodges cater to trekkers here, and we’ll select one of the most comfortable to enjoy a warm night’s sleep as the cold night air settles over the mountains.

  • Accommodation: Oxygen Lodge/ Similar
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: (4,910 m/16,105 ft)

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! Your steps have led you here, and we’ll get an early start on the final push to Everest Base Camp. Take your time and drink plenty of fluids to avoid symptoms of altitude sickness as we approach the first landmark on today’s hike: the community of Gorak Shep. This is the last permanent settlement on the Everest Base Camp Trek; we’ll return here later in the day. For now, we’ll continue to base camp by following the path along a glacial moraine. When we reach base camp, at least, you’ll be surrounded by colorful prayer flags, celebrating hikers, and—most importantly—a 360-degree view of the enormous mountains in the entire Himalayas. After enjoying the experience to your heart’s content, we’ll shoulder our bags and descend back to Gorak Shep to spend the night in one of that town’s best teahouses.

  • Accommodation: Himalaya Lodge
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: 5,364m/17,599ft

You may have already been to Everest Base Camp and back, but that doesn’t mean your adventures are over. No trip to the Khumbu would be complete without hiking to the spectacular viewpoint of Kala Patthar. From here, you’ll gain an even better view of the world’s tallest mountain than you can see from the base camp. We’ll head out from Gorak Shep in the very early dawn to arrive at Kala Patthar in the full glory of the morning sun. This is, without a doubt, the very best 360-degree view in the entire Himalayas, where the mountains Pumori and Lhotse seem almost close enough to touch. When you’ve finally had your fill of this astonishing scene, we’ll turn our footsteps back down the ridgeline, leaving Gorak Shep behind us on the way to Pheriche. We’ll stop here for the night, enjoying a hot meal and a warm bed at the best trekking lodge.

  • Accommodation: Pumori Lodge/ Similar
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max.Altitude: 5,545m/18,193ft

After breakfast this morning, we’ll trek back down to the Imja Khola River and follow it through the verdant greenery of the forest. Passing several small villages along the way, we’ll eventually reach Tengboche after about two or three hours on the trail. Take one last look at the town’s unforgettable monastery while we break for lunch. After sating our appetites, we’ll return to Namche Bazaar. We should arrive in Khumbu’s most vibrant trading town after approximately four or five more hours of hiking along ridgelines scattered with low-lying shrubs. We’ll stop here in Namche for the night, so don’t miss this chance to return to your favorite bakery and watch the sunset over the mountains.

  • Accommodation: Sakura Lodge/similar
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Altitude: 3,438m/11,280ft

Lace up your hiking boots one last time—today is our final full day on the Everest Base Camp Trek. We’ve got about six hours on the trail today, and our path to the Dudh Koshi River follows a markedly steep grade. After crossing a suspension bridge and passing the villages of Phakding and Monjo, we’ll return like heroes to Lukla, where our adventure began. We’ll spend the night here; make sure to sample the cafes and restaurants of this offbeat travelers’ town. Congratulations on completing the Everest Base Camp Trek!

  • Accommodation: Northface Lodge
  • Hiking Duration: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (Included)

Best Time for trekking to EBC -14 days

Weather in the Himalayas is variable, and the arrival of the summer monsoon usually determines the best trekking seasons. To avoid the wettest conditions, many hikers travel during the spring, which occurs from February to March. This is the time of year when wildflowers are in bloom and temperatures are at their most comfortable.

Other trekkers might prefer to undertake the Everest Base Camp Hike during the autumn season, between September and November. This is perhaps the best time of year for crisp days and clear mountain views. Of course, winter treks are also possible; while temperatures can be cold and trails can be packed with snow, there is an undeniable appeal to enjoying the Everest Base Camp hike without a crowd.

We typically recommend against hiking the Everest Base Camp during summer. Suppose your schedule only allows you to visit Nepal during the summer. In that case, Alpine Ramble Treks will happily arrange a proper Himalayan adventure on one of our many alternate routes.

Please note: On rare occasions, domestic flights between Kathmandu and Lukla may be delayed or canceled due to weather conditions. This can happen during any time of the year, and you can rest assured that Alpine Ramble Treks will work with you to make any possible alternative arrangements to minimize the interruption to your holiday.

Firstly, I would like to say thanks to Alpine Ramble Treks for organizing an amazing trek for me and my husband. From the very first moment of our arrival, we're well taken by Mr. Dil and our Guide Laxman. They are absolutely the best. We choose the Alpine Ramble based on their rating from their previous clients, almost everyone shared the best experiences joining this company. And exactly, we found the same as well, they are very accommodated, and flexible, we trusted them since we met at the airport. We did An Everest base camp trek for 14-days, and this was a life-changing experience.  We could not ask better than this. Our guide LAXMAN is always there to help us, he is very informative and experienced with a kind heart. He knows everyone in the mountains. we felt so blessed to have Laxman as our guide who made our trip so easy and comfortable. We did not worry about anything being in the mountains, everything was taken care of by them including our food, accommodations, transport, and everything. The food we ate in the mountain was so delicious, our guide always gave us the ideas about what to eat and not to eat which is very important, if you were not known then you might be sick in the mountain, not every meal are safe and fresh to eat in the mountains. We felt so safe and had truly an amazing trip with them, after the trek, Dil came to greet us and gave us a farewell dinner. He is so friendly and very connective, he made sure we both were having a nice trip. We are so connected with this company and guides now. We are already thinking of coming back to this incredible country and doing another trek with them (a 12-day Annapurna circuit trek) in 2023 spring.

If you intend to visit Nepal, connect with this company and ask the Laxman as your guide, you will not disappoint. Highly recommended ART to anyone of you.

I just completed a 14-day Everest Base Camp trek with Hari as my guide. This has to be one of the most amazing journeys I've ever been on. Dil ensured that the trip was well planned and Hari was an incredible guide. Always attentive and supportive, Hari ensured I reached base camp successfully. Alpine Ramble is an exceptionally run organization. I would recommend this company and its tours to anyone wishing to experience Nepal.

I highly enjoyed the trek and guides Dika & Krissna for helping me get to the Everest base camp. They made my experience enjoyable and fun and I will absolutely sign up for the trek again and hope to have them as my guides once more.

Just finished up my tour of Nepal on the EBC trek with Alpine Ramble, and I am so glad I chose this company.

From the beginning, the owner Dil and his team were extremely responsive to all the questions I had about the trip. And when I arrived in Kathmandu, my guide was there waiting for me with a taxi ready to transport me back to my hotel.

From then, it got even better with the service and support I received from my guide Samir, and porter Karma. They kept me safe at all times during the harsh Winter season. And apart from keeping me safe, no one mentioned that I would also have two expert photographers travelling with me. (Pictures below)

Travelling solo meant that I was so happy to have my brothers Samir and Karma with me, teaching me about the beautiful country of Nepal. Both Samir and Karma would always go the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed, whenever I needed something. Samir was also very entertaining with his singing and dancing along the way too!

The food on the trek was amazing! Hopefully when I arrive home I can find some Dhal Bhat, with more rice for the same price! Accomodation on the trek was also excellent, as my room had the best views and attached en-suite wherever possible!

I would recommend Alpine Ramble to anyone for their trekking and adventure needs!

    Until next time Alpine Ramble!
Looking forward to our next adventure already!

    Amazing company!
Dil was incredibly helpful with organising our trek to Everest Base Camp and made sure everything was well taken care of, we couldn’t have wished for a more thoughtful individual to look after us while we stayed in Nepal, he went above and beyond to make us comfortable.
Our guide Laxman was awesome, he was very knowledgable with 18 years experience and had a relaxed and patient attitude which was perfect for our group. Top guy!
Also our porters who completed our team were a very friendly bunch who took very good care of all our belongings when hauling them up the mountain.
Fantastic company who I would always work with again in future.
Thank you Dil and co for an epic trip!
    Namaste.
