Kathmandu, the city of temples. There are so many things that one can do in Kathmandu. From numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sightseeing to short hikes and other adventurous activities like indoor rock climbing, etc. You will find an uncountable number of things to do here in Kathmandu. No doubt to have a real taste of Kathmandu, one day is surely not enough.

Sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu

Pashupatinath Temple: Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most important and holy temples of Hindus. The temple premises holds many small temples and the holy Bagmati river. Every year hundreds and thousands of pilgrims visit this place to get a blessing from Lord Shiva. You can explore around the temple, however, people who do not follow Hinduism are not allowed to enter the main building where the four head statue of Lord Shiva is placed. Also, there is a small entry fee for foreigners that your tour guide will arrange for you.

Boudhnath Stupa: Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa of Nepal. It is one of the very important holy sites of Buddhists. Here, you will find Tibetan Buddhism. People from all around the world flock here to worship during the main festivals. While your tour to Boudhnath Stupa, you will find yourself in a magical environment your regardless of crowd, your soul, and your mind will feel peace. Every corner of the premises is enchanted by the divine aroma of joss sticks and holy chants. Around the main stupa, you will find small monasteries, several souvenir stores, and eatery places.

Swayambhunath: The famous Monkey Temple is one of the very popular landmarks among travelers. Swayambhunath is located on top of a hill. To reach the top, you will have to climb several staircases. On the way, you will find naughty monkeys who will accompany you to the top of the temple. Swayambhunath is another very important pilgrimage site. Around the main temple, you will find many small temples devoted to other deities. Also, from the top of the temple, you will get to see an excellent view of the Kathmandu valley. 

Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square: Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square are two of the three durbar squares of Kathmandu Valley. The durbar square will present you with precise architecture, fine art, palace, temples, shrines, courtyards, and museums. Here, you will get to come across the history of Nepal and the medieval era. All of the durbar squares are built by different kings during their regime and showcases the main events of that time. 

Go on Short Hike to nearby Hill Stations

Hiking to nearby places like Nagarkot or Chandragiri will allow you to see gorgeous sunrise along with beautiful mountain views. Nagarkot and Chandragiri are the most popular for a quick hike and to witness wonderful scenery. You can complete this short excursion in a few hours in the morning and spend the rest of the day visiting other places.

Spend some Time in Garden of Dreams

Situated amid Kathmandu, Garden of Dreams is a neo-classical historical garden. Known as the garden of six seasons, this stunning garden was made by late Field Marshal Kaiser Sumsher Rana (1892-1964) in early 1920. During 1920, this garden was known as the most sophisticated private garden. Garden of Dreams was designed based on Edwardian style. Inside the garden, you will see an elegant ensemble of arcades, fountains, garden furniture, and European inspired pieces like verandas, porch, pergolas, balustrades, pots, and birdhouses. 

Try Newari Food

Nepali cuisine is very broad and diverse. Among many branches of Nepali cuisine, Newari food is the most famous and delicious one. You can visit any Newari restaurant and have their delicious dishes. Dishes like bara, Chatamari, gundruk ko achar, choyala, etc can be found. 

Explore Thamel

Thamel is the most touristic center of Kathmandu. The bustling streets of Thamel have a different captivating vibe that will attract anyone. There are numerous shops selling crafts, antiques, paintings, hem products, etc. Likewise, there are many beautiful coffee shops. restaurants, and spas. 
 

Do Shopping

You are already in Thamel, the streets full of shops. Get something for you and your loved ones. Take back with yourself as a memory that will never be going to fade away. Or, if you like antiques and unique pieces, then this is the best opportunity to buy things like that. Also, you can go to Ason Bazar located nearby Thamel, and do shopping there.
